PlayGuy Frequently Asked Questions

1. Where can I get game (ROM) XXX?

I'm sorry, but for legal reasons I cannot tell you this. Also remember that you should own games titles before you use them with PlayGuy.

2. Why doesn't game (ROM) XXX work with PlayGuy?

There are many reasons for this. First, the emulation in not perfect. While PlayGuy's compatibility rate may be very high, some games are very particular to how they must be run. Given time and careful debugging, these flaws may be corrected. Secondly, the ROM may be corrupt. You may want to try Cowering's GoodGbx ROM management tool to see if it can 1) recognise the ROM and 2) whether it has a [bx] (x is a number) suffix. The [bx] suffix indicates a bad dump.

3. Why won't GBA games (ROMs) work with PlayGuy? I see a GBA option for default handheld.

The GBA option under default handheld will run a GBx game as if it is running on a GBA. Basically the default handheld option sets a value in the A & B CPU registers that the game reads to determine which hardware it is running on. In certain games it will change the palette colors or reportedly unlock hidden features in games devloped for both platforms.

4. PlayGuy runs too slow on my computer. How can I make it run faster?

    1. Disable graphic filters.
    2. Switch to 16bpp color depth.
    3. Disable VSYNC.
    4. Use a "Small" window size.
    5. Increase minimum frame skip.
    6. Close any background applications.

5. How can I trade Pokemon with PlayGuy?

Trading Pokemon requires GameLink support. PlayGuy does not yet have GameLink support integrated into the application. I suggest using TGB Dual for trading your Pokemon. It is the only GBx emulator I know of that supports GameLink with two different carts. Battery backed SRAM files should be compatible, just change the extention from gbs to sav and move to the proper directory.

6. When will PlayGuy support GameLink?

There is no easy answer to this question. Yes, there are plans to add GameLink support to PlayGuy. It will, however, require a major revision of code to support concurrently running GameBoys. The plan will be to enable both local GameLink support and network/internet support. Hopefully before Christmas, but this may be wishful thinking.
